Ian Smillie

I graduated with a BSc in Psychology from University of Glamorgan in 1999 followed by a postgraduate qualification in 2006. I’m currently working towards a Professional Doctorate in Educational Psychology from Cardiff University, which I plan to attain this year.

Alongside my studies, I have had a wide range of applied psychological experience, in particular, working with children, young people, their families and fellow professionals.  The focus of my current work is as a trainee Educational Psychologist, using psychology to engage and support people through the process of change.

In addition, I have been a qualified youth worker for over ten years, and a worked as a trainer for a freelance training company, as well as developing training programs for volunteer mentors.

Outside of work and study, I enjoy socialising, gaining new experiences and making the most of exercise and the great outdoors.  I particularly enjoy walking, mountain biking and anything that adds a little adventure to my life to break up the routine.  People are important to me.  I love nothing better than letting time float away with good company and conversation, preferably with refreshment – so good food and fine wine are the perfect complement.

I was pleased to have been invited to join the iBodz rookie team as I’ve always been quite active and motivated, and have always had am interest in exercise.  However, I'm really looking to get back to fitness, whilst at the same time attempting to strip fat and build up muscle.  I'm not naturally a gym-person, preferring the great outdoors. However, it will be interesting to see how I get along with my new iBodz program. You can read all about how I get on in my regular blog.

Enjoy
