two and half weeks on.....

OK, so I have now been working out for 2 and half weeks. Progress so far - I have managed to keep to 4 sessions per week. Week one, was difficult, i could manage the runs but the intervals were really taking it out of me. It was on the news yesterday that doing short bursts of exercise has significant benefits blah blah blah. Now i did know this already - but it's nice to feel smug and think that i was ahead of the game - or Oliver was anyway. The problem came however half way through week 2. At which point, my right calf had almost ceased altogether. I spent ages stretching it and doing lots of walking to warm up, but it still really hurt, sadly to the point where I've had to give up running for a week. However, determined as I am, i'm not giving up on the exercise - to replace the running i've been on my bike, in the gym and in the pool. I hope that Oliver will forgive me for breaking the plan - but i've been trying... One great thing is that I haven't been to the gym for ages - instead i've been running and on my cross trainer at home - but going back has made me realise the progress i've made. Normally, after 5 mins on the rower i'm ready to give it all in and dreams of winning the olympic gold quickly dissolve into olympic ice cream dreams. Yesterday, i managed 15 mins without any problem - i also did lots of bike and cross trainer work - just in case you think it was a very short session!! I'm going to ask Oliver for some advice on solving my calf muscle problem - but hopefully, i can get back to pounding the streets this weekend.
