My First Session

Written by: on 13th Jan 2009

I somewhat arrogantly looked at Oliver's program for me and thought it would be fairly easy for me - in fact I wrote to him and told him so - oh dear! Last night I completed the program as directed - however - I should caveate that I was a bit concerned about leaving my house, walking for 90 mins and then doing some 'dynamic' stetches in the street! As much as I have mostly overcome my embarrasment of being in the street - that's too much. So my warm up involved a trip around the house before leaving for my run. I also did a fair wack of stretching, because my calves are prone to being quite sore. I started the run and the easy pace is indeed easy (well reasonable) - interval training is indeed a well known way of improving speed and stamina - but when i upped my pace - i really couldn't do it for 2 mins - i managed 1min and 20secs before having to slow down. The rest of the run was a struggle - just that little extra push clearly makes a difference. Whilst this is tough - by virtue of the fact that it's difficult - i can only assume means it will help - so I look forward to the next session. Although not sure my legs will. As for the strength exercises, they were spot on - i found them all difficult so am definately not ready to move on yet. It was Monday night when i did the first session, I'll be doing it again on Wednesday and Friday and will probably attempt another run on Sunday - i've a long way to go yet. It's january so motivation is high, lets see if that continues...
