This Time it's Different....

I like to think I'm pretty normal in my mindset about exercise. I go through stages, there's the 'why...' stage. Where the desire to do nothing is easy and I am overwhelmed with a sense of the unfairness of life - why should i have to exercise? Why can't i just eat and drink what i like and not be bothered about my weight? Why do other people find it so easy...?

The ups and downs of working out

It's been a while since my last entry, but that doesn't really mean I haven't been doing anything! It is now time to admit that I have failed my goal of running the 10k this weekend. I have a reasonable excuse with strain in my calf that has caused a considerable amount of pain whenever i run. HOWEVER, i really have been ensuring that I'm working out at least three times a week. As part of my job I am now finding myself in a number of different cities every day and anyone who uses the excuse that they don't have time to exercise because of work.

two and half weeks on.....

OK, so I have now been working out for 2 and half weeks. Progress so far - I have managed to keep to 4 sessions per week. Week one, was difficult, i could manage the runs but the intervals were really taking it out of me. It was on the news yesterday that doing short bursts of exercise has significant benefits blah blah blah. Now i did know this already - but it's nice to feel smug and think that i was ahead of the game - or Oliver was anyway. The problem came however half way through week 2. At which point, my right calf had almost ceased altogether.

My First Session

I somewhat arrogantly looked at Oliver's program for me and thought it would be fairly easy for me - in fact I wrote to him and told him so - oh dear! Last night I completed the program as directed - however - I should caveate that I was a bit concerned about leaving my house, walking for 90 mins and then doing some 'dynamic' stetches in the street! As much as I have mostly overcome my embarrasment of being in the street - that's too much. So my warm up involved a trip around the house before leaving for my run.

From the beginning

You join me on my journey after about a year of having the same goals and trying to reach them. I have been trying to shift a stone (ultimately a stone and a half) and to become an accomplished runner for over 12months. Really that just means I have a romantic idea of being fit enough to go for an easy jog and not suffer with pains in my legs and chest both at the time and for the following days.
